20 Tips to Feel Motivated Again & live your best self
Tired of being tired? Unmotivated and in a slump?
Today’s the day I want you to live your best self. Here’s how 👇
Do you feel that? It feels like sadness, a low mood. You’re at work and there’s a point in your day when there’s a moment of stillness, a quietness that you usually don’t get. You stop moving, stop working, and realize that your thoughts trailed off into an abyss of negative empty thoughts. That moment is you checking out – your brain sending signals to your body to slow down, warning you to stop for a moment to check yourself…meaning, it’s time to listen.
Not all the time do people feel this sense of emotional overwhelm at their job, sometimes it’s on their commute, running an errand, on lunch, or even at home. My point is, at some time in our lives, even multiple times for some of us, we feel unsure of our life’s purpose. We start to question our work, our career, our relationships, even our lifestyles. We evaluate our timeline and level of happiness then start making comparisons to others and our unachieved goals. We say, “things aren’t working now, or as fast as I would like them to be, therefore I’m not happy” and now the downward spiral begins. Once we take that pause and accept those self-limiting negative thoughts our bodies start to feel the overwhelm and we become depressed, tired, and make poor choices. We stress ourselves trying to figure it all out to the point that we stay in this endless loop of disappointment and self-sabotage.
So, what are some causes for someone to feel unmotivated?
The answer is not simple but we can definitely describe some common patterns that might be familiar to you:
You could be bored at your JOB – Maybe you don’t feel challenged at work, haven’t been given bigger responsibilities or take leadership roles, and don’t enjoy the day-to-day process. Or sometimes you could have a toxic work environment, bad management, or delayed promotions – feeling like you can’t fix it and you’re going nowhere.
You could be unhappy with your CAREER choice – Maybe you’re bored of this career and crave something new and exciting. Maybe you’re looking to start a business or a new educational program. Or maybe the industry is taking a turn and this career may not be viable in the years to come. Question is: are you fulfilled?
You could be bored at HOME – Sometimes we get caught up in our everyday that we forget what we used to enjoy doing on our spare time. Did you play sports or have a hobby? Did you read more or exercised? Did you hang out with friends, family, or social groups after work? Maybe your home feels overwhelming to you.
You could be unhappy with YOURSELF – We can be very hard on ourselves if we don’t see results, so we evaluate our situation: Are we keeping up with our education? Are we advancing at work? Are we making enough money? Are we keeping ourselves healthy and active? Are we helping others and paying it forward? Are we getting the help we need? Are we working on our confidence and self-doubts? The list can go on.
Give yourself that time to think and feel the emotion. Be mindful of what barriers you are putting up and what limiting beliefs are you telling yourself. Once you meditate on that, only then can we move forward. Life coach, Brooke Castillo said “You must understand yourself before you can change yourself.”
MY 20 TIPS TO FEEL MOTIVATED IN LIFE OR AT WORK:
Be mindful of what you enjoy, and don’t enjoy, doing at work and at home.
What are your triggers for negative thoughts or poor behaviour?
Do you have negative people in your life keeping you from moving forward?
Reflect on your relationships.
Now reflect on your accomplishments.
What brings you joy?
Make a list of what you’re good at and what needs improvement.
Write down any hobbies you’ve enjoyed in the past, currently enjoy, and would like to try.
Write down ideas for other careers you might enjoy (whether you can or can’t do it right now).
Feeling entrepreneurial? Write down some ideas (whether you can or can’t do it right now).
Be mindful of your lifestyle choices – Do you have any goals? Health choices? Activities?
What kind of home do you want to have – New house? Change decor? Minimalism?
What would make you feel better or more confident?
What routine can you make for yourself to progress everyday?
What mindset changes can you do for yourself so you can continue to feel positive and strong?
Read self-help books on what challenges you.
Research those career or business ideas to get the ball rolling.
Research education or your ideal lifestyle choice.
Find a mentor or coach to talk to and keep you motivated.
Find someone who is successful doing (what your ideal goal is) and read their stories.
This list can certainly be endless but the most important piece of advice I can give you is to be mindful or your thoughts and surroundings. Your brain, and possibly the universe, is trying to tell you something and it’s imperative that you listen.
If you’re ever unsure where to start, then talk to a professional, someone outside your circle, so they can guide you without judgement. Some ideal choices include: a mentor, guidance counsellor, career counsellor, life coach, business coach, therapist, or a professor.
